*The food details below are from the previous year (2025); the 2026 festival details are currently being updated.* The foundation of the Eumseong Pumba Festival is the life of the late Grandfather Choi Gwi-dong, the "Beggar Saint." He is the very person who, despite his own disability, went around the neighborhoods of Mugeuk-ri in Geumwang-eup collecting food to feed beggars who were unable to even beg. He is regarded as a saint of love whose life no one can imitate. Legends regarding "Pumba" have been passed down in various forms. It is said to be an onomatopoeia serving as a rhythmic melody used in the refrain of the Gakseori Taryeong. The Eumseong Pumba Festival combines the spirit of philanthropy of Grandfather Choi Gwi-dong with the "Pumba," which has traditionally solidified as a synonym for traveling merchants. Even though our lives in the modern era have become more affluent, spiritual poverty and inequality still persist. The festival was born with the premise that such a society must be healed through love and sharing, and that catharsis should be experienced through satire and humor. Furthermore, the Eumseong Pumba Festival is a spiritual and cultural festival that practices love and sharing.
