The Busan Lotus Lantern Festival is a traditional cultural festival that preserves and develops the Lotus Lantern Festival, a National Intangible Cultural Heritage, within the Busan region. The Lotus Lantern Festival is a unique Korean culture with a history spanning approximately 1,200 years; it holds significance in celebrating Buddha's Birthday by lighting lanterns to pray for mutual happiness and peace, and to promote harmony and prosperity within the community. In particular, the Lotus Lantern Festival is a global cultural heritage inscribed on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and its tradition and value are widely recognized. The Busan Lotus Lantern Festival aims to enjoy, preserve, and develop traditional culture together with citizens through various programs, including the Joint Celebration Rally, the Lotus Lantern Procession, and traditional lantern exhibitions.
