The Gyeongsan Jain Danoje is the oldest traditional folk festival in Korea, passed down since the Silla Dynasty. It is a ritual performed by the residents of Jain-myeon, Gyeongsan-si, North Gyeongsang Province, to General Han, the guardian deity of the village. It is a grand-scale village ritual that involves holding the Grand Ritual at Hanmyo on Suritnal (Danojeol), an ancient holiday, and performing various folk entertainments such as the Hojang Procession, Yeowonmu, Jain Palgwangdae, Jain Dano Gut, wrestling, and swings. The Gyeongsan Jain Danoje offers a glimpse into a unique artistic style through its long-standing ritual ceremonies, spirit of loyalty, and colorful folk games. It is a National Intangible Cultural Heritage that has been handed down since the Silla Dynasty, embodying the unity of the hearts of all the residents of Jain-hyeon.
