The Diaspora Film Festival, held in Incheon, was conceived under the concept of "Diaspora," a term referring to the lives of Jewish people who have preserved their cultures while scattered across the globe. Starting with the departure of Korea's first immigrant ship from Incheon Port to Hawaii in 1902, Incheon has become a city representative of Korean immigration history and a place that preserves the history and stories of migration. Reflecting on this historical significance, the Diaspora Film Festival aims to stand in solidarity with the marginalized against discrimination and prejudice, and to spread the values of diversity and tolerance through film. By shedding light on various issues related to the diaspora and providing a platform for in-depth exploration of migration in our society, the festival presents audiences with a foundation for coexistence and harmony. Having steadily grown since its inception in 2013, the Diaspora Film Festival celebrates its 14th edition this year in the hospitality-loving city of Incheon and has established itself as the city's representative film festival.
