The 96th Chunhyang Festival, boasting the deepest history and tradition in South Korea, will brilliantly adorn the spring of Namwon this coming April. The Chunhyang Festival is a traditional cultural festival initiated in 1931 during the Japanese colonial period by the voluntary collective of Namwon citizens to inspire national pride and honor the noble spirit of Seong Chunhyang. It is the progenitor of performing arts festivals in South Korea and the nation's oldest historical asset, having breathed alongside the citizens for a long and distinguished 96 years. Starting from a ritual commemorating Dano, the day Chunhyang and Yi Mongryong first met, the festival is now evolving beyond Korea into a global cultural platform where people from all over the world can enjoy and communicate together. In particular, this year's festival is characterized by the harmonious blend of the tranquil scenery of Gwanghanru Garden and modern light displays. It offers the dynamic exhilaration of traditional performances during the day and provides a lyrical atmosphere under the romantic starlight at night, delivering an unforgettable emotional experience to visitors. The 96th Chunhyang Festival, held in a space where the most Korean sentiments come alive, is a venue of harmony where tradition, modernity, and the world are connected as one.
